You might have heard of Batman, it’s fairly popular series of comics, movies and tv shows. Jim in particular is a big fan.
Trade paperback collections of note:
- The Dark Knight Returns — Its set in the future and batman eventually takes on superman
- Hush (volumes 1 and 2) — In which batman faces most of the regular villians, as they are pitted against him in series of practical jokes by a mysterious new one. set reasonably far through the batman timeline, where batman is working mostly solo, but is friends with superman and keeps in touch with nightwing.
- Batman Year One — duh… this is set during batman’s first year…who would have thought? not so much an origin story though. It’s not about how he became batman, but about his first year, once he had donned the cape and cowl. Also almost as much about Jim Gordon as batman.
- Robin Year One — Again, not so much an origin story. It picks up after the killer of Dick Grayson’s parents has been bought to justice by Batman and Robin, and explains not how he became Robin, but the events in his first year after having done so.
-
Batman in the forties, fifties, sixties, seventies and eighties — A series of collections, each highlighting key stories from a decade of comics. Some to showcase key events, some to show off major villains, some are classic stories, others are simply there to highlight how significantly batman comics have changed throughout the years. The Batman in the forties collection includes the first couple of batman stories, which actually appeared in 1939.
- other stuff Jim is bound to keep adding to here…
