- Robert Asprin
- Jim Butcher - Interesting mix of detective adventures and Fantasy
- Alan Campbell - Scar Night, gothic
- Trudi Canavan
- Glen Cook
- Gordon Dickson
- David Eddings
- Steven Erikson - Epic military fantasy (some people find it a little too dark, Fav Author eonsim) not so much dark as graphically violent. The protagonists actually seem to win the more significant batttles for instance. brehaut
- Raymond E. Feist {I like his characterization, and his medievial societies but his is just a bit too fond of retcon for me. – brehaut}
- Laurell K Hamilton - Early books of Vampire series only
- Robin Hobb - Decent but her ends are iffy, need to read the trilogy of trilogy’s in one go
- P. C. Hodgell - Interesting, amusing and rather unique fantasy, God Stalker Highly recomended.
- Robert Jordan - Epic Fantasy (Fav Author eonsim) (reputedly a good author, but has major issues with endings Jim)
- George RR Martin - Fairly dark epic Fantasy
- Terry Pratchett — Comic fantasy. Started off as british absurdist humour mixed with parody and has moved toward more alegoricy and satire with darker humour and significantly more sophistocated writing. brehaut‘s favorite author.
- JRR Tolkien
