Hot Chocolate 101

Everyone is always telling me how much better my microwave hot chocolate is than the rest of the world's. Heres how it is done:

  1. Put 2 reasonable teaspoons of hot chocolate powder in a mug, and add enough boiling water (about an inch from the bottom of the mug) to disolve the chocolate - stir it in with a teaspoon.
  2. Optionally, add vanilla (essence is better for hot chocolates). About 1/2 a teaspoonish
  3. Add (blue) milk up to 1cm from the top
  4. Microwave on high for 1:50 (or 3:00 if you want to do two mugs at once)
  5. Remove the skin that forms on the surface with a teaspoon
  6. Optionally, if you have not added vanilla you may wish to put 1/2 a shot of Bailey's Irish Cream

Note: Milo, Cadbury's instant hot chocolate stuff and other similar things are not a suitable replacement for real hot chocolate. If you are a dink you may wish to use hersheys hot chocolate.

What (other than Hersheys) qualifies as real hot chocolate?

The normal cadbury's hot chocolate stuff is fine. thats the stuff that comes in a cardboard box. the instant stuff comes in a glass jar, and has suger (or possibly cancer) and milk powder, you just add boiling water.

Yeah, but making it yourself isn't as much fun! And it wouldn't be the same if everyone's hot chocolates tasted like yours though!! : )
But I can understad not wanting to make hot chocolates for billions of people all the time!! : )

Oliver

Well, you're not excessive or anything are you :)

Hmm other option that's really nice:

Add a piece of Cadbury Peppermint Chocolate wich has been split into to expose the center during the first step. Then when you add the boiling water keep stiring till the chocolate melts.

yeah, thanks for showing me this way last year, Breo. I get lots of compliments on the way I make hot chocolate, but doncha worry... I give you all the credit!

I'm just not sure that 2 teaspoons is enough tho. I tend to go for 1 1/2 tablespoons...
